Sher Wrestling is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing high-performance wrestlers while making the sport accessible to every child — free of charge. We believe wrestling teaches more than technique: it builds discipline, resilience, and leadership that last a lifetime.
Sher Wrestling was founded by Coach Paul, a lifelong athlete who competed for Team Alberta and earned numerous city, provincial, and national championships. Inspired by the mentorship and opportunities he received, Paul created Sher Wrestling to give back to the next generation of athletes.

Building confidence and coordination through fun, fundamental activities.
We begin with our youngest athletes by teaching the fundamentals of sport through fun, engaging activities such as gymnastics, yoga, footwork, plyometrics, and games like soccer and gaga ball. The focus is on building coordination, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement, not competition.
As athletes grow, Sher Wrestling provides scholarship opportunities to support their pursuit of post-secondary education. Since the current CIS (U Sports) program offers limited funding, our goal is to fill that gap, ensuring no student-athlete is held back by financial barriers.
Sher Wrestling offers a structured, elite training environment designed to prepare athletes for national and international competition. We emphasize technical excellence, discipline, and personal growth, guided by experienced coaches and mentors.
By 2028, Sher Wrestling aims to bring 15 Canadian athletes to India to train and experience international wrestling culture firsthand. This initiative includes funding the construction of a well in our ancestral homeland, connecting Canadian-born athletes to their roots and teaching them the value of giving back globally. By 2030, Sher Wrestling plans to add Africa as another destination.
True to our roots, Sher Wrestling is built on the principle that no child should ever pay to wrestle. Inspired by Coach Reg, who never charged his athletes, we are committed to keeping our programs free through community fundraising and partnerships.
Coach Paul’s wrestling journey began in Grade 6, inspired by his older brother Justin Basra, who competed for Lester B. Pearson but had to train at Jack James High School due to the lack of a wrestling program. Welcomed into high school practices early by Coach Tony Allen, Paul quickly developed a deep passion for the sport.
During junior high at Dr. Gordon Higgins, Paul trained under Coach Ryan Miller, who encouraged him to join the competitive Rebels Wrestling Club. There, he was mentored by Reginald “Reg” Robert Larocque, a pivotal influence in his development both on and off the mat.
Paul attended Lester B. Pearson for high school, where he helped establish the school’s wrestling team alongside fellow Rebel Brian, with support from coaches Lindsay Marsh, Kai Klientz, and Paben Dhaliwal. His competitive career includes numerous city, provincial, and national championships, highlighted by representing Team Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games.
Driven by the mentorship and opportunities he received, Coach Paul founded Sher Wrestling to give back to the next generation. His mission is to provide a supportive, high-performance environment where young athletes can grow through sport, develop discipline, and build lifelong habits for success both on the mat and in life.
