The mentors behind Sher Wrestling
Coach Paul's wrestling journey began in Grade 6, inspired by his older brother Justin Basra, who competed for Lester B. Pearson but had to train at Jack James High School due to the lack of a wrestling program. Welcomed into high school practices early by Coach Tony Allen, Paul quickly developed a deep passion for the sport.
During junior high at Dr. Gordon Higgins, Paul trained under Coach Ryan Miller, who encouraged him to join the competitive Rebels Wrestling Club. There, he was mentored by Reginald "Reg" Robert Larocque, a pivotal influence in his development both on and off the mat.
Paul attended Lester B. Pearson for high school, where he helped establish the school's wrestling team alongside fellow Rebel Brian, with support from coaches Lindsay Marsh, Kai Klientz, and Paben Dhaliwal. His competitive career includes numerous city, provincial, and national championships, highlighted by representing Team Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games.
Driven by the mentorship and opportunities he received, Coach Paul founded Sher Wrestling to give back to the next generation. His mission is to provide a supportive, high-performance environment where young athletes can grow through sport, develop discipline, and build lifelong habits for success both on the mat and in life.
Coach Justin brings a wealth of competitive experience and leadership to the Sher Wrestling coaching staff. A National Silver Medalist with multiple Top 5 finishes at the national level, Justin has competed against some of the best wrestlers in the country and gained valuable international competition experience along the way.
In addition to his wrestling accomplishments, Justin has built an impressive career in mixed martial arts. He is the Hard Knocks MMA 145 lb Champion and the Havoc MMA 135 lb Champion, demonstrating his versatility, discipline, and ability to compete at a high level across combat sports.
Justin's influence on Sher Wrestling goes back even further. As the older brother of Coach Paul, he played a key role in introducing Paul to the sport of wrestling. The two grew up training together, pushing each other through practices and competitions, helping shape the work ethic and competitive mindset that now forms the foundation of the Sher Wrestling program.
Today, Coach Justin brings that same passion to the mat, focusing on developing strong fundamentals, resilience, and confidence in the next generation of athletes while helping them grow both on and off the mat.

After graduating, she returned to Crossing Park to help coach alongside the mentors who introduced her to the sport. Harleen also currently trains in mixed martial arts at Champions Creed.
